In the original estimate for the

school prepared by the Inspector of Schools a second

Mistress was provided. This provision I considered could be

left out until it was seen how the school developed and it

was accordingly not included in the Estimates for 1905 nor

has it been included in those for 1906.

The necessity for this provision

ī

has now been again brought forward by the Head Master and

by the Inspector of Schools on the grounds that,

the ages

of the children under instruction varying from 5 to 15,

they have to be divided into infant classes, a lower school

and an upper school, which require separate superintendence.

I accordingly submit for your

approval that as soon as the attendance at the school

exceeds 50, Mrs. Morris, the utilisation of whose services

as an Assistant Teacher was suggested in paragraph 3 of

your Despatch No. 33 of the 17th. February, 1905, should

be appointed on 3 months' probation as Second Mistress at

the Victoria British School with salary of Grade III,

$960 to $1,200 by biennial increments of $120, this salary

being the same as that included in the Estimates for the
